Last day for Rotary requirements

All teams interested in competing for the coveted championship crown of the 2005 Saipan Rotary Summer Youth Basketball League have until 4:30pm today to submit all requirements, according to league official Elias Rangamar.
Rangamar said yesterday that all teams must submit age verification documents, waiver forms, and the $100 entrance fee today. Teams who fail to pay the entrance fee will not be allowed to play.
The league is scheduled to kick off tomorrow, and after team representatives drew numbers during a meeting last week, the San Antonio Sixers I and Ol’Aces set up a powerhouse showdown to open the curtain to the 2005 season, going head to head beginning at 6pm.
Both teams look to better their finish from last year, when the Sixers placed runner up and the Ol’Aces finished in third place.
The league expected about 18 teams, however, several teams opted to drop out.
With the field now featuring 14 teams, league officials have decided not to set up pool play. Also, the regular season will feature a one-round elimination process in which teams will face each other once before the top squads head into the playoffs.
Joining Sixers I and Ol’Aces in the 18-and-under league are Sixers II, Matansa Sparks, Southern Sonics, Garapan Rollers I, II, and III, Breeze, Bwibwis, Hoops, San Antonio, and the CNMI Women’s Junior National Team.
Games will be played Monday to Thursday, featuring two 20-minute halves. Each team is allowed two time outs in the first half and three in the second half. Officials also stressed that unused timeouts from the first half will not carry over to the second half.
Rangamar also reiterated the importance of coaches to attend coaching clinic sessions held every Saturday at the Ada Gym from 9am to 12pm. The sessions are held in hopes of improving the standard of play in the league.
Defending champions Makos will not make a return to defend their crown.
