Superior Court judge David A. Wiseman yesterday filed with the Commonwealth Election Commission his intention to seek retention for a second six-year term in the November polls.

The CNMI Constitution states that the question of whether to retain a justice or judge shall be placed on the ballot at the general election immediately before the end of the initial term. The judge’s first six-year term expires in March 2007.

“In making this decision to seek a second term…I am motivated by my sincere desire to meet the challenges of being a judge. I believe that I have met and continue to meet such challenges successfully and in a manner that upholds the integrity and dignity of the court while improving the objectives and standards of the judiciary,” he said.

“In doing so, I have maintained a sense of fairness, humility and sensitivity—qualities which are so inherently important in the administration of justice,” Wiseman said in a letter to CEC director Gregorio Sablan.

Among his many decisions, Wiseman has gained a reputation for ordering the deportation of prostitutes and campaigning strongly against drunk driving.
