Consumers who are experiencing problems in their water system after the new water meters have been installed in their areas are advised to call the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. for any necessary repairs in or around the new meters, if any.

Complaints of bursting pipes and ruptured lines due to high water pressure were received by the CUC Water Division from residents of Chinatown, Navy Hill, Chalan Laulau, Oleai and central Garapan immediately after the water meters were installed in these areas.

“This happened because with the installation of the new water meters, the valves are now widely open so that when the high water pressure comes in, the residents are experiencing problems,” explained Mariano Iglecias of CUC Water Division.

“We just need to adjust the valve inside the meters. And if the customers notice any leaks in their connections or if there’s no water coming out of the lines to please call CUC so we can go to their areas and fix it,” Iglecias added.

Residents who wanted to report the damage are urged to call CUC at 664-6175/76 during the day or at 235-0282/2282 after office hours.

As of Tuesday this week, 404 water meters have been installed by the Water Task Force meter installation team. Work started from As Terlaje early this month and is now heading to Lower Navy Hill. The contractor is expected to complete the installation of the 4,000 water meters during September. (PR)
