Chiefs to meet in advance for the new CFL season
With little more than two months left before the pigskins fly in the 2005 edition of the Commonwealth Football League, teams are already mobilizing their gridiron warriors to prepare for what is shaping up to be a memorable season.
A few months removed from winning the 2004 title, the Shell Chiefs done some house cleaning. With the weeks counting down to the opening kickoff, it is clear that the defending champs will be entering the season with a noticeably different look.
For starters, the Chiefs have begun a search for a new sponsor, as the support from Shell has moved on to the Lightning. The loss would not be so painful were it not for the defection of several players and staff to this season’s competitors.
Team sources explained that a good portion of the team’s red and yellow warriors will be sporting new colors, prompting team leaders to call an organizational meeting right away.
In order to ensure a successful defense of their title, the Chiefs will meet tonight at the Carolinian Utt on Beach Road in Garapan to discuss everything from potential sponsors to potential quarterbacks.
According to wide receiver/cornerback Dean Camacho, there will be ample opportunities for those interested in playing with the Chiefs in 2005, as the squad is looking to add roughly 10-15 players to the roster.
The most glaring vacancies are at the runningback and quarterback position, but the Chiefs still have a strong core group of players on both sides of the ball that remained loyal to their coach and teammates, and they will certainly threaten to be a force again.
The meeting gets underway this evening at 6pm in Garapan, and it is open to anyone interested in playing for the Chiefs at any position. For more information, contact Camacho by calling 234-6293 during business hours.
