Century Insurance tops Thursday Night bowling

Century Insurance will receive the championship trophy of the 17th season of the PBA-CBC Thursday Night League during a brief awards ceremony tonight at the Capitol Bowling Center in Garapan.

Century Insurance topped the recently concluded season that ended last June 23 by compiling a 64-32 win-loss record.

Verizon Nitro DSL finished second with a 62.5-33.5 slate, while third place went to Multi-Line Supply with a 59.5-36.5 record. Toyota Microl and Pacific Home Appliances round out the top five with standings of 59-37 and 58-38, respectively.

Century Insurance didn’t only take home the overall team championship, it also bagged all top four special awards—high game scratch, high game with handicap, high series scratch, and high series with handicap.

Multi-Line Supply (High game scratch and high series scratch), Eyun Ji Corp. (High game with handicap), and Micronesian Brokers, Inc. (High series with handicap) copped runner-up places in the team special awards.

In individual awards, Richard Leong and Elena Soll wound up with the high average plums for men and women. Leong normed 199.54, while Soll averaged 162.11 throughout the season.

Most improved bowlers were Ernie Villarin and Bjay Sollestre, who upped their pinfall averages by of 29.19 and 12.52 pins, respectively.

Other special awards for individual bowlers had Ruselle Zapanta (278) and Soll (234) top the high game scratch, Edgar Talavera (301) and Gigi Zapanta (269) do the trick in the high game with handicap, Villarin (704) and Soll (579) top the high series scratch, and Jorge Soledad (750) and Soll (675) again rule the high series with handicap.

Runner up in the men’s special individual awards include Mark “The Shark” Halstead (High game scratch, 276), Lito Teodoro (High game with handicap 298), and Raymond Zapanta (High series scratch, 696 and high series with handicap, 744)

The 17th season of the PBA-CBC Thursday Night League was organized by the Philippine Bowling Association and sponsored by Capitol Bowling Center. Tonight’s awards ceremony would begin promptly at 6:30pm and all bowlers receiving trophies and accompanying cash prizes are requested to attend.
