Five men seeks $650K in damages
Five men filed two separate lawsuits yesterday that seek a total of $650,000 in damages in connection with their injuries resulting from two separate vehicular accidents on Saipan.
In one of the two cases, Froilan B. Santos, Oscar de Vera, June G. Capili and Edwin Cabaddu sued Anthony Cruz Sablan for damages of at least $150,000.
Their attorney, Mark K. Williams, accused Sablan of negligently driving his 1987 Toyota pickup truck with license plate ABE-497 on Nov. 1, 2004, which hit the vehicle that the four men were riding on.
Williams said Sablan was driving his car beyond the speed limit when it hit the group’s 1998 Toyota pickup truck with license plate ABM-516 on 16 Highway, As Terlaje. The accident resulted in the four’s extensive internal and external injuries, including broken bones.
In the other case, Park Hee Jong seeks damages of at least $500,000 from Mahesh Balakrishnan, Pacific Drilling Ltd. and Dongbu Insurance Co. Ltd.
Balakrishnan, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Tacoma with license plate ABP-723 on Aug. 2, 2004, allegedly hit Jong’s vehicle on 16 Highway in Dandan.
Jong said that Balakrishnan was acting within the scope of his employment with PDL. Jong also initiated a direct action against the company’s insurer, Dongbu.
Williams, Jong’s attorney, said that Balakrishnan was driving beyond the speed limit. Jong sustained injuries during the accident.
Williams said all five victims had to undergo hospitalization and medical treatment, incurring expenses. He said the victims were unable to report for work and lost wages.
The lawyer said Balakrishnan and Sablan negligently failed in their duties to ensure the safety of motorists while driving.
