The inaugural picnic set to commemorate U.S. Armed Forces Day has been postponed to Memorial Day on May 30.

Clarissa Fejeran of the Military and Veterans Affairs Office said the celebration has also been moved to the Veteran Memorial Park in Susupe across the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

The event was originally set to take place at the Minachom Atdao Beach Pavilion. Despite the change of venue, the 10am-3pm time still stands, she said.

The picnic celebration is part of the Military Service Appreciation Month activities. The Special U.S. Armed Forces Day Picnic is being hosted by Gov. Juan N. Babauta and Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente on behalf of all CNMI men and women in uniform who served, are still serving, and those who will serve in any branch of the U.S. Armed Services.

Military and Veterans Affairs Office executive officer Ruth Coleman earlier said all military personnel—past, present, and future—from all branches of services are invited to help celebrate Armed Forces Day on May 30.

“We also want to recognize all our sons and daughters who have completed their tour of duty abroad, are here with us on R&R, or will be leaving soon for training and/or deployment,” according to a statement from the Governor’s Office released earlier this month.

Soldiers with the Reserve, National Guard, or Regular Army, Airmen, Marines, sailors, or Coast Guardsman who will be on the island starting May 21 are urged to contact the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs at 664-2650/1, said Coleman.

Coleman said earlier that the Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles personnel and other officials will present the various options for the Veterans’ License Plates that would soon be available for all eligible veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces residing in the Commonwealth and have vehicles registered in their names.
