Friends of the Arts’ annual Youth Theatre Production for 2005 is Once Upon a Mattress, a Broadway musical comedy.

Based upon the Hans Christian Anderson tale, The Princess and the Pea, this show features a cast of 33 talented youth from schools throughout Saipan and ranging from grades 1 through 9. The story opens with everyone in the kingdom hoping to marry off Prince Dauntless to a worthy princess, a seemingly hopeless task since his mother, Queen Aggravain, seems determined to keep him at home. A rather unlikely candidate does appear, however; but will she be able to pass the Queen’s test for a true princess?

The show will be held this week on May 19, 20, and 21—Thursday, Friday, and Saturday—at 7:30pm at the Hafa Adai Beach Hotel Fiesta Hall.

Tickets are just $5 for adults and $3 for children and students. Purchase your tickets by calling Melody Actouka at 235-1320 (leave a message with your return telephone number and the number of tickets needed) or at the door.

Doors will open for ticket sales and seating at 7pm each evening.

Proceeds from this show help to support the CNMI National Thespian Team’s participation in the International Thespian Competition in Lincoln, Nebraska, this summer. (PR)
