Hyatt introduces the taste of northern China to the CNMI community by bringing in two Chinese chefs from Tianjin, China for a two-week food fest.

Hyatt’s “Essence of Tianjin” started last Monday at the Kili Café and Terrace. The food fest will run from May 16 to 28.

Chefs de Partie David Gao and Brian Yang from Hyatt Regency Tianjin, China flew in from China last Sunday for the food festival. Both chefs have been with Hyatt Tianjin for more than 18 years now.

Hyatt Regency Tianjin is 76 miles or 120 kilometers from Beijing, in a premier city center close to the Foreign Trade Bureau, museums, shops, banks and government offices. It is also close to Tianjin’s industrial, textile and manufacturing districts.

According to Hyatt director of food and beverage Sam Cheng, Tianjin fare includes cold appetizers, dumplings, buns and noodles. He said the CNMI is already used to food from the southern part of China, hence their decision to focus on the northern cuisine of that country.

Cheng said this is the first time Hyatt is introducing Tianjin cuisine to Saipan.

He said they also sent two chefs to China for an inter-hotel exchange program for a food fest. “Hyatt Tianjin is also having a food fest, showcasing local and Filipino cuisine,” he said. Cheng said they have sent chefs Roger Li and Ed Olarte to Tianjin, China last week.

Executive chef Gabriel Colombo said the food fest would be a great experience for Chinese food lovers.

Cheng said “Essence of Tianjin” is being served from 6pm to 10pm daily. Each meal would cost $35 per person for an all-Tianjin gastronomical experience. He said some Tianjin dishes would also be served during lunchtime, together with regular food courses.
