Head Start celebrates the Young Child’s Week
The week of May 16 to 21 has been declared Head Start Week of the Young Child.
This event was marked with the signing of a proclamation by Gov. Juan N. Babauta on May 12, and celebrated by children from the Head Start program singing him songs and reciting poetry.
In designating a week where this crucial and critical time in the life of the young child is recognized, the Head Start program stresses how important it is that parents and the community give special attention to these members of society.
“It has only been a short time in human history that people have given attention to the unique needs and the wonderful potential that lies with the young child. It wasn’t long ago that children where to be ‘seen and not heard’ and were seen as adults in training. We now know that these first five years have so critical [an impact] in the formation of the potential that a child will be left with for the rest of their lives,” Head Start said in a statement.
The Head Start Program is inviting the public to any of the events that have been planned to celebrate this week.
The following activities have been planned to celebrate this event:
May 16 – Community Open House at the Tanapag, San Roque and Garapan (located on Capitol Hill government housing #1255) Head Start Centers.
