MHS wins friendly Rocball match with Seisa Gakuen
Athletes spent another afternoon at the Marianas High School on the Rocball court, this time, engaging in a friendly match with students of Seisa Gakuen High School last Friday.
Making the trip to Saipan for the 19th straight year, the Japanese students enjoyed their time on the court, exchanging high fives and positive gestures with the local hosts.
MHS went on to take the match, 68-20, but most importantly, both teams managed to build relationships in keeping sportsmanship throughout the sets.
Being the more experienced team in the sport, the MHS squad took the first set, 16-6, and widened their lead to 34-11 after breezing through the second set, 18-5.
Seisa Gakuen was limited to four points in the third set while allowing the Dolphins to rack up another 19 points, before the match was closed with the Dolphins securing the win by juicing out at 16-5.
Pedro Iguel and Donald Tagabuel led the Dolphins with five points apiece. Both had a kee and a goal. Three other Dolphins connected for goals.
The two teams then mixed their rosters for another friendly match.
After the game, Rocball creator Jim Feger commended the Seisa Gakuen players for their efforts and was also on the receiving end of a special gift from the guest students.
Students from both schools also participated in friendly games in basketball, table tennis, badminton, soccer, and softball.
Seisa Gakuen students arrived Wednesday and were guests at a welcoming party hosted by the MHS students and staff. The guests then toured historical sites on Thursday, took part in Sports Day on Friday, celebrated Cultural Day with MHS on Saturday, and threw an appreciation party for their hosts last night at the World Resort.
