GOP holds kick-off rally
Each riding on a motorcyle, Republican standard bearer Gov. Juan N. Babauta and Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente, led the GOP’s candidates and supporters in a mid-morning motorcade on Beach Road yesterday, leading up to their assembly area at the Civic Center in Susupe.
The crowd was estimated at nearly 2,000.
GOP chairman John S. Reyes said motorcades separately began in each precinct area for a 10am meeting at the Civic Center.
“It’s done at the precinct level. Precinct 3 for instance, began at the Cristo Rai area at 930am,” he said.
He said the standard-bearer’s motorcycling “is something different.”
“We want to do something different. We’ll do it differently,” he said.
The rally, which lasted past 3pm, also served as GOP’s general membership convention and family gathering, said Reyes.
The party provided live band entertainment, food and drinks, and games and balloons for young children.
Party candidates were introduced per precinct and senatorial districts.
The event was participated by GOP candidates and supporters from Saipan, Rota, Tinian, and Northern Islands.
Aside from the introduction and remarks by the candidates, other community figures spoke on stage in support of the party’s bid in the Nov. 5 general elections.
