Marianas High School will be holding its 27th annual Cultural Day today, May 14, from 9am to 2:30pm at its school campus, during which MHS students will mingle and play with Japanese students from the Seiska Gakuen school.

This year, about 120 students from Seiska Gakuen, MHS’ sister school, are visiting the school. The relationship between MHS and Seiska Gakuen has been ongoing since 1986.

During this Cultural Day, there will be numerous activities, including the first-ever Parade of Cultures, which is a show of couples representing various cultures that exist in the CNMI. There will also be a special performance by Amberlynn Mendiola, Rachel Parker Yobei, and many other clubs and organizations in Marianas High School.

Besides the live performances, there will be a variety of dishes that will be sold by different organizations, such as MHS Alumni, classes, and clubs.

Seisa Gakuen students will also be selling the famous Japanese dish, yakisoba, prepared right before the customers’ eyes. MHS students have been working hard on building utts using traditional methods and with natural tools and resources to showcase the local techniques used in the past.

The MHS Cultural Day is expected to provide the students and the community an opportunity to experience and become more aware of the ethnic diversity that resides here in the CNMI. MHS’ Cultural Day is one of the oldest celebrations in Saipan.
