Registration now open for NMC-COMPASS summer youth program
For the second straight year, the Northern Marianas College Community Programs and Services is providing a venue for youths to help them prepare for upcoming challenges in high school or in the workforce.
According to Lorraine Cabrera and Laureen Manibusan of NMC-COMPASS, sessions for Project LIFE and Camp LIFE will begin on July 5 and end on July 29.
Project LIFE—Lead Into Future Experiences—focuses on children from 12 to 14 years old, while Camp LIFE—Lead, Imagine, Foster Experience—are for children from 8 to 11 years old.
“At Project LIFE, teens…will focus on developing leadership skills, recognizing personal strengths, and preparing for the future and the real world,” Cabrera and Manibusan said in a statement.
The two said the program also features goal setting, career planning, personal money management, and entrepreneurship.
“This is the only summer program in the CNMI that provides youth with exciting leadership training to develop them into lifelong learners and leaders in today’s multicultural society,” they said.
Camp LIFE will provide participants the opportunity to explore their creativity, become entrepreneurs, exercise athleticism, and develop new friendships.
The first week focuses on team-building and the importance of working together. Week two features music and performing arts, while the third week features arts and craft making. The final week will expose participants to entrepreneurship, including the risks and rewards of running their own business. Participants will also participate in a Conversation Japanese class.
Project Life sessions run from 8am to 12:30pm while Camp Life begins at 1pm and ends at 4:30pm.
Registration is now open until June 30.
Manibusan and Cabrera said that financial assistance for the program is credited to DFS Galleria Saipan, with additional support from the Saipan Mayor’s Office, J.C. Tenorio Enterprises, Inc., and Saipan Shipping.
