Tacoma topples Budweiser, 5-3
The Toyota Tacoma scored three runs in the top of the first inning and pitcher McGregory Camacho carried them the rest of the way as they handed the Budweiser Kings their third loss of the season on Monday night in continuation of the 2005 edition of the Saipan Major League.
It wasn’t that easy for the Tacoma, as their bats cooled before coming back to life in the top of the fifth when Ned Norita drove in catcher Mario Aguon for the eventual game winning RBI at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
Camacho went the distance for the Tacoma allowing just three runs off of five hits through nine innings on the hill, and now trails only Brewers hurler Jonathan Camacho for the most innings pitched with 30 in four games of work.
Ray Dela Cruz went the whole nine as well for the Kings, and boasted impressive numbers in allowing five runs off of five hits. Each hit came from a different batter, as Dela Cruz was foiled by four walks and couple of errors. Two of the four walks were converted into runs, and two of the five runs scored as a direct result of errors.
Aguon went 0-for-3 but scored twice after being awarded a pair of bases on balls—including the game winner.
The Toyota ace was also able to win the pitching duel with Dela Cruz because he benefited from a little more help on the offensive side in the form of two runs and one hit.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, the Tacoma watched as the Kings chipped away with a run in the bottom of the inning when Dwight Quitano crossed home plate on a sac fly by first baseman Ray Camacho.
The Kings tied the game in the bottom of the third when shortstop Herman Kintol scored on an errant throw, and Quitano raced home on a single by Tony Manibusan. That was all the Kings had in the tank, as the Tacoma regained the lead in their next at bat when Aguon scored, and added an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Oscar Sablan scored.
Tacoma second baseman Mike Cruz finished the game 1-for-3 with a single and a walk, while left fielder Tony Pangelinan went 1-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored. Late addition Sablan went 1-for-1 with a lead off single and a run scored in the bottom of the ninth.
