In addition to the helping fight against cancer, the Marianas March Against Cancer will have something for the whole family to enjoy. There will be local delicacies, games for kids, and nonstop entertainment as various teams participate in the 12-hour overnight event beginning this Friday evening.

“Even if not a part of any of the participating teams, everyone in the community is invited to join and support this very important event,” said Frankie M. Eliptico, public relations coordinator for the MMAC committee. “In addition to all the food, games, and entertainment, there will also be educational components of the event where adults and kids alike can learn about cancer prevention.”

The Marianas March Against Cancer is described by organizers as an important event that gives everyone an opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors, to remember those who have lost the fight, and most importantly to raise money and awareness for those struggling with the disease.

“This year marks the third time the March has been held and we have a dedicated group of volunteers are excited to put on the most memorable event,” said Eliptico.

Thousands of people participated last year’s Marianas March Against Cancer, which raised more than $60,000.

Participating teams are encouraged to walk, run, or even dance around the course over a 12-hour period. This year’s MMAC will be held at the Hopwood Junior High School race track in San Antonio on May 13 through 14, 2005.

There will be fun activities throughout the night and on into the morning, including musical entertainment, dance performances and other fun events.

The Marianas March Against Cancer is the fund raising arm of Commonwealth Cancer Association and is the principal source of funds for the CCA.
