D’Fixers sweep, Boholanos avoid sweep
Diamond Fixers completed a sweep of the first round, while Boholanos avoided a sweep of a more ignominious kind in last week’s Saipan Ice & Water Co., Inc. 20th Anniversary Basketball League at the Construction and Material Supply Basketball Court.
Led by hot-shooting Johnny Badilles and high-flyer Rowell Aranda, Boholanos finally notched a win in their corner with a 79-73 triumph against Subway in the second game of last Thursday’s twinbill.
Badilles and Aranda scored 26 and 24 points, respectively, while Jason Bahillo led Subway with 21 points.
In the first game, host Saipan Ice put itself in a position to finish as the third seed after beating Marianas Water 93-90.
Butch Sublemente led Saipan Ice with 26 points, while Dennis Apelo paced Marianas Water with a game-high 34 points.
A victory against Diplomats in their make-up game, which was played last night, guarantees Saipan Ice the third seed in the next round.
On Tuesday, Diamond Fixers had nine players contribute eight points or more as it finished the first round without a loss following a 100-73 rout of MDX Radio Club.
Leading scorer Francis Rebuyon again led Diamond Fixers with 15 points, while Badong Camacho topscored for MDX with 20.
In the second game, sweet-shooting swingman Jeff Garcia sizzled with 23 points to lead Micronesian Brokers to a 79-68 triumph against the Diplomats.
The win secured the second seed for MBI, while Diplomats, which was led by the 21 points of Edwin Guzman, will have to duke it out with Saipan Ice for the aforementioned third seed.
