Hustlers hammer Matrix in season finale, 26-0
The UMDA Hustlers scored 18 runs off of 16 hits in the bottom of the second inning to take a ridiculous 25-0 lead over Toyota Matrix on Saturday to close out their turnaround season with a win in continuation of the Saipan Little League Baseball Association.
Last year’s last place team scored another run in the bottom of the third inning to put the wraps on their offense for the day in which they scored a combined 26 runs off of 23 hits in only three team at bats.
McGarette Dueñas went a perfect 3-for-3 for the Hustlers in the hammering with a pair of singles, a triple, three runs scored, and a run batted in, but teammates Nokkie Lizama and Jonathan Tydingco each did one better.
Tydingco went 4-for-4 with a trio of singles and a double, scored four times, and drove in five runs, while Lizama smacked three doubles and a triple, scored four times, drove in four runs, and stole a base to finish 4-for-4 as well. The duo each scored three times in the second inning amidst the 18-run 16-hit flurry.
If there was an award for the most improved team, it would definitely go to the Hustlers, as they went from the cellar to stellar in one season, as they finished in a tie for first place with the Tanapag Braves at 9-1.
Blue Jays 12, Pirates 8
After trailing 6-3 through one and a half innings of play, the Dan Dan Blue Jays scuttled the Pirates’ lead by scoring nine runs off of nine hits in the bottom of the second to take control of the game, and never looked back.
Starting Pitcher Santiago Tenorio was the baddest Blue Jay with a bat, as the slugger went 3-for-4 with three singles, two runs scored, and an RBI to help his cause. Tenorio got plenty of help from his supporting cast, as catcher Esibei Arurang hit a pair of singles, a double, and crossed home plate twice, while left fielder John Salas hit a pair of base knocks, drove in a run, and scored to finish 2-for-3 on the day.
When he wasn’t being walked, shortstop Justin Kintol provided some offense for the Jays with an RBI triple and two runs scored.
Twins10, Little Legals 5
The As Matuis Twins finished their season on a high note as they litigated 10 runs from the Little Legals on Saturday, and got another longball from slugger Eric Tenorio as they doubled up on their opponents.
Tenorio finished the day at 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs off of a double and a solo homerun, and though the official results are yet to be released, he is a shoo-in for this year’s batting champion.
While he is the biggest hitter on the team, Tenorio wasn’t the biggest hitter on the day, as teammate Joaquin Castro was a perfect 2-for-2 with a single and a triple, two runs batted in, a pair of plate crossings, and a stolen base. Castro filled out his stat sheet with a solid day for the Twins, as did left fielder Mart Sablan, who went 2-for-3 with a single and a double, scored twice, and stole a bag.
