May is Farmers Month, too
Among the numerous events this month is a celebration dedicated to local farmers and ranchers, honoring their continuous efforts for the development of the Commonwealth.
Gov. Juan N. Babauta signed yesterday morning a proclamation declaring the month of May as “Mes Lanchero” or the Farmers’ Month. The event was held at the Sabalu Market Building along the Beach Road.
The celebration will cover the entire month.
Saipan Agricultural Fair Association president Donald Flores said that during this monthlong festivity, CNMI farmers would be recognized for their hard work and contribution to the community by providing locally-grown fruits, vegetables and animal products.
Flores said the CNMI farmers will show their gratitude for the support of the community by donating produce to the Man’amko Center. Other donations would be sold by the Commonwealth Health Center Volunteers to help purchase needed equipment and materials for the hospital.
The association is also inviting the public to come and join them at the 26th Annual Saipan Agricultural Fair, which will be held from May 27 to 28, during which farmers and ranchers will show their best produce and livestock on the island. The participating farmers would be competing for cash prizes.
Flores said everyone is welcome to join the farmers and ranchers on May 28 from 8am to 2pm at the Sabalu Market Building in Susupe across the Marianas High School on Beach Road.
