Braves lasso Legals, Marlins shoot down Falcons
The Tanapag Braves continued their push for the pennant on Saturday as they lapped 15 runs on the Little Legals before the umpires had seen enough and ended the game via the 10-run mercy rule after the fourth inning.
Pitchers Charito Kladikim and Josh Jones combined to throw four scoreless innings for the Braves, but they pitched in to the offensive effort as well. Kladikim went 2-for-3 with a single, a triple, two runs scored, and a stolen base, while Jones went 2-for-3 with a single, a double, two runs batted in, two plate crossings, and a stolen base.
Braves’ left fielder Diego Pinaula wielded the big stick for the Little Leaguers with a perfect 2-for-2 performance that yielded two singles, two runs batted in, and a run scored. He had plenty of teammates swinging for the fences, as catcher Peter Lieto went 2-for-3 with a single, a triple, two runs batted in, and a pair of plate crossings, while third baseman Jonathan Camacho went 2-for-3 with a pair of base knocks and three ribbies.
Hustlers 9, Kagman 1-2-3 2
Last year’s losers stayed on pace to become this year’s winners, as the Hustlers scored seven runs in the first two innings to bury the boys from Kagman beneath their bats. Right fielder McGarett Duenas was the craftiest of the Hustlers nine, as the little slugger went a flawless 4-for-4at the plate with four singles, a run batted in, and two runs scored. Teammate Noki Lizama also had a little something up his sleeve, as the shortstop went 2-for-3 with a triple, a homerun, and three runs batted in.
While the hitters did their job, pitcher Jonathan Tydingco earned a raise, as the hurler allowed just two runs off of one hit through six innings and fanned seven.
As Matuis Twins 14, Bombers 8
Before the start of the game, Eric Tenorio of the As Matuis Twins had already racked up more hits than the Beatles, and the past, present, and future all-star added to his reputation with a powerful 3-for-4 outing on Saturday in which he hit a pair of doubles, a homerun, drove in two runs, and crossed the plate four times.
First baseman turned outfielder Mark Sablan added to the Twins’ tallies with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate that yielded a single, a triple, a runs scored, and a stolen base, while teammate Robert Tudela went 2-for-2 with a triple, a single, and a run batted in.
Blue Jays 11, Patriots 5
Santiago Tenorio was a one-man wrecking crew for the clan from Dan Dan, as the Blue Jays pitcher pitched four and one-third, five-run, five-hit innings in which he fanned 10 batters, and was perfect at the plate. When Tenorio picked up the bats he went 3-for-3 with three singles, two runs scored, and a run batted in.
Tenorio didn’t have to do everything, as third baseman Jonakiim Deleon Guerrero went 2-for-3 with a single, an inside-the-park homerun, four runs batted in, scored two runs, and stole a base.
First baseman Anthony Salas also went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a run scored. Closer Brian Camacho picked up a save in the game when he took the hill in the final one and two-thirds to fan four—including the final three batters in the game.
JUNIOR LEAGUE
Marlins 9, Falcons 4
The Falcons finally took one on the chin on Saturday at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field, and the Marlins rallied top score seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and picked up some much needed confidence as the season moves forward in the Junior League.
Pitcher Vicente Cabrera was the player of the game for the Marlins, as he allowed three runs off of six hits through six innings—striking out nine along the way. On the other side of the plate, Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, a run scored, and a run batted in.
First year Junior Leaguer Donovan George was the big hitter for the big fish, as he went 3-for-4 with three singles and crossed the plate for a score.
Pirates 13, Fielders 3
A.J. Dela Cruz kept the Fielders batters dela-quiet, as the Pirates pitcher threw a three-run three-hit complete game and fanned six en route to a 10-run rout.
While Dela Cruz did his work from the hill, Tako Camacho produced at the plate, as the center fielder went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, two runs scored, and a run batted in. Teammate Ofero Taitano slugged a couple of singles and crossed home plate three time in a 2-for-4 outing, and first baseman Cameron Sers Nicholas went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, and two runs scored despite an injured finger.
Jets 21, Ol’Aces 20
The Commonwealth Football League would loved to have scores like the contest at Tan Ko field on Saturday, as the Jets withstood a three-run rally in the top of the seventh edge the talented squad in the highest scoring game of the year.
The Ol’Aces held a 10-0 lead before the Jets scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to three runs. After the Ol’Aces added another nickel in the top of the fourth, the Jets rallied for six runs in the bottom of the inning to keep the game close at 15-13. The Ol’Aces scored a run in the top of the fifth and sixth innings, but the Jets took the lead by scoring eight runs during the same span.
With a 21-17 lead, the Jets surrendered three runs before finally closing the door on the Ol’Aces, 21-20.
Catcher Mario Salas was the big hitter for the Jets, as he went 3-for-4 with three singles, three runs scored, an a pair of runs batted in, but starting pitcher Joab Camacho provided the fireworks with a double, a homerun, four runs batted in, and three runs scored.
