Joeten-Kiyu Public Library closed until Thursday
Joeten-Kiyu Public Library in Susupe is still closed because of the system upgrade its management undertook beginning last April 3.
Library director Kevin Latham said they hope to be back in operation this Thursday, April 14. He said the new interface of the library system took awhile to be updated which he thought would only take three days to finish.
DYNIX, the software vendor from Australia, sent representatives to work on the said upgrade since last Monday.
Latham said the public library has been getting the services of the vendor for at least three years now. The needed upgrade was due to problems linking up with other institutions on Saipan.
The DYNIX software currently helps the public library-goers in locating their favorite books. Latham said the software also helps in the circulation system of the library as to what books are available and what books are already checked out.
“The new public catalogue would be much easier to use,” said Latham. He added that it would be easier for the public to use the interface after the upgrades.
The upgrade on the automation system server in the Information Technology Center at the library would also benefit its linkup with the Northern Marianas College library.
He said the Northern Marianas College and the Public Library share the same system.
“It’s going to be much better hooking up with NMC and we’re working towards completing them [the linkup].”
Latham said the staff of the public library would begin their training for the use of the new interfaces of the library system software, such as the catalogue software.
While he assured that they would open on Thursday, Latham still advised the public to call them should they want to confirm the availability of the library within this week.
He is encouraging library and ITC patrons to call ahead of time at 235-7322 before coming to the library or for further information. Latham said they apologize for the temporary disruption of their services.
