For the first time since 1998, the U.S. Postal Service will be administering an entrance examination on Saipan.

The purpose of the exam is to find qualified candidates for the following positions on Saipan:

Sales, Services & Distribution Associates ($16.65 to $22.53 plus 25 percent TCOLA)

Those interested in registering to take the exam have two options:

* Register online at www.usps.com/employment between 12:01am EST on Monday, Apr. 18, and 11:59pm EST on Friday, Apr. 22.

* Register via telephone by calling 1-800-601-8953 and following the prompts. The telephone application system will take from 8 to 15 minutes.

In either case, exam registrants must reference Announcement Number 123958. Applicants can only apply once per Announcement Number.

Applications for the exam will NOT be accepted at any post office or postal service facility. The actual exam is tentatively scheduled to be administered eight weeks from the close of the registration period. This will likely be the general public’s only opportunity to take the postal entrance examination for several years.

The multiple-choice examination and completion of forms will require approximately three hours and thirty minutes. Applicants will be sent a scheduling package that includes the exam date, time, and location, and material to prepare for the examination. At the time of the examination, applicants will be asked to choose one or more of the jobs listed. Applicants on current battery registers must take Test 473 to maintain potential employment consideration.

A minimum score of 70 on the examination places applicants’ names on a register of eligible applicants for a period of two years. Names are placed on the hiring register according to the score achieved on the examination.

Sales, Services and Distribution Associates provide direct sales and customer support services in a retail environment, including the distribution of mail.

The U.S. Postal Service delivers 206 billion pieces of mail a year, or five pieces per address per day to over 141 million homes, businesses, and Post Office boxes, and serves 7 million customers daily at 37,579 postal retail outlets.
