The Northern Marianas College Community Development Institute is offering a Praxis Test Preparation Course. The course is designed to introduce educators to the new test format, help them understand the many facts of the test, and prepare them for the many challenges they may face while taking the test.

Why take the course? Many educators fail to meet the state minimum required score set for the test and have to take the test numerous times. This can be both mentally and emotionally draining. In addition, the CNMI State Board of Education now requires all teachers in the Public School System to take this test as a condition of their employment. By enrolling in this course, educators will dramatically improve their Praxis test taking skills.

What is in the course? Ms. Brante Dashiell, Acting Associate Director and Instructor for NMC’s School of Education who has over 6 years of experience as a Praxis workshop coordinator and instructor, will cover the test series in sessions. The first session includes an overview of the test, strategies for taking the test, study skills, preparation skills, test taking behaviors, and planning for the test. The second session consists of building vocabulary and preparing for the reading section (verbal and comprehension). The third session prepares test takers for the writing (grammar) and math (basic math, algebra, and geometry) sections of the test. Each session includes sample tests and exercises designed to enhance Praxis test taking skills.

When is it, and how to register? The course is scheduled for April 22-23 and 29-30. Call 234-5498 extensions 1005. 1030, or 1014 or email compass@nmcnet.edu for more information.
