The stage was all set, the music was booming, the lights were shining, and the crowd was electrified as bartender Charlton Lipa of Aqua Resort Club, who had to wait awhile before showing his stuff, wowed everyone and impressed all three judges during last Thursday’s GIG Discotheque Battle of the Bartenders before leaving with two awards and cash.

Lipa, who also took top honors in the Northern Marianas Bartenders Association Grand Marnier Challenge last year, was the last bartender to take the stage. While he was working his magic and blending key ingredients to his cocktail, recognition from the crowd and judges began to pour in. The champion was in a zone of his own with bottle-spinning tricks, earning $150 in cash.

Not only was his routine electrifying and drawing cheers from the jam-packed audience, Lipa also won the Best in Taste Award, despite executing one of his stunts while blindfolded.

Finishing with first runner-up award was fellow ARC bartender Cesar Ramos, while Marvin Salamat of Pacific Islands Club placed second runner-up.

Ramos went home with $100, while Salamat earned $75. The top three winners were also presented with certificates.

Salamat also competed in the Grand Marnier Challenge last year, taking home first runner-up.

The competition also featured four other competitors representing Hafa Adai Beach Hotel, Marianas Resort and Spa, Ocean Bar, and PIC.

All competitors lived up to the hype expected of the competition and had a fair share of taking the spotlight, each earning applause and cheers from the crowd dancing to booming tunes while working wonders during their presentations.

Having the tough task of judging the competition were Nelia Atalig, Ruby Pamintuan, and Dark Star of GIG.

Host GIG Discotheque also provided free giveaways, including baseball caps and shirts.

The event was also sponsored by Western Sales Trading Co., Rota Crystal Mineral Water, Chemix Trading Pool and Spa Supplies, and RP Construction.
