Navy Exchange opens new Autoport
Guam—The Navy Exchange is scheduled to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Autoport on Naval Base Guam on April 1 at 9:30am.
The Autoport was previously situated in a World War II-era, three-dome quonset hut directly across from the Navy Exchange main store. The historic corrugated metal hut was the last of its kind still in use by the U.S. Navy.
The new location is in a more spacious, renovated building between the main store and the Navy Exchange Home Gallery. The move consolidates several services under one roof. In addition to a computerized vehicle safety inspection center, the facility is home to Jackson’s Carwash, Tinting and Detailing and National Rental Car.
Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Terry Scott, the U.S. Navy’s most senior enlisted member and a close adviser to the Chief of Naval Operations, is visiting Navy commands in Guam and will be present at the grand opening ceremony.
The ceremony will also be attended by Rear Adm. Arthur Johnson, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Marianas; Capt. Robert McNaught, commanding officer of Naval Base Guam and chief of staff of COMNAVMARIANAS; Capt. David Boone, commander of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas; and Larry Boone from the NEX Headquarters in Va.
