Commonwealth-wide Red Cross walkathon set
The Northern Mariana Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross is proud to announce the staging of their 19th Annual Walkathon.
This year’s event is scheduled to take place on March 19, a Saturday. This year will surely be exciting, according to NMI ARC executive director John Hirsh, as the Walkathon will take place on Saipan, Rota, and Tinian all on the same day.
The 10K event will begin at sunrise on each island and everyone who raises $15 will receive a free Walkathon T-shirt. There will also be prizes awarded to schools, business, and individuals who raise the most money for the Red Cross.
The Walkathon is particularly important as it encourages team spirit, family fun, and a healthy lifestyle, added Hirsh.
The NMI Chapter works closely with each of the schools, government agencies, and civic groups so as to involve all members of the community. This year’s event will also feature a Health and Safety fair with various booths promoting a healthy lifestyle such as diabetes prevention and control.
“The NMI Chapter is committed to the people of the Commonwealth. We provide vital emergency disaster training, comprehensive workplace health and safety programs and U.S. Armed Forces communications. We truly believe that, together, we can save a life,” said Hirsh.
