The Shark strikes again
Mark “The Shark” Halstead again wreaked havoc on the wooden lanes of the Saipan Bowling Center, gobbling up the most individual awards of the just concluded Adam and Eve Mixed League that held its award ceremony Tuesday.
Halstead won the most prestigious plum of the season, when the 39-year-old veteran kegler, playing for JET Holdings Co., topped the high average category with a sterling score of 195.45 drops a game.
HKP & Associates and fellow off-island campaigner Paul Pangelinan finished second to Halstead in the high average race of Tuesday night league with a 194.98 per match norm.
In the ladies side, Pangelinan’s teammate Diana Camacho won the high average award with a 169.78 average per game, while Lynn Teregeyo of Martha’s Retail Store was runner-up with her 165.43.
Halstead and Camacho each took home $50 for their first-place effort, while Pangelinan and Teregeyo got $25 for their runner-up finishes.
Glenn Garde of Like It Or Not and Ruby Resid of Adam and Eve Mixed League champion Nila’s Salon were named the season’s most improved bowlers.
Garde upped his average from a season ago by 17.27, while Resid bettered her norm by 17.33. Pangelinan and Maridel Camacho of Blue Js finished second in the MIB race with improvements of 14.98 and 11.62, respectively.
Garde and Resid were $30 richer each for their feat, while Pangelinan and Camacho received $15 each.
The Adam and Eve Mixed League also gave out a myriad of special award during the awards ceremony.
Halstead won two more trophies. He first came away with the high game scratch plum after rolling a 269. Teammate and protégé Jonathan Hensley was second in the category with a 266 followed by fellow youth bowler and Nila’s Salon’s Ruselle Zapanta, who had a 258.
Vivian Cruz of HKP & Associates topped the battle in the women’s high game scratch with her 245. Lucy De Leon Guerrero of Patriots was second with her 222, while Teregeyo was third with her 215.
Halstead and Cruz received $25, Hensley and De Leon Guerrero $20, and Zapanta and Lynn Teregeyo $15.
The Shark also took a bite out of the high series with handicap prize money by topping the category with his 705. Garde actually tied Halstead and both shared first place, while Ramon Borja of Jihadd was third with his 703.
Resid was the winner in the women’s side with her 715, followed by Deleon Guerrero’s 671 and the 670 of Jihadd’s Bernie Santos.
Halstead and Garde split the $55 top purse, while Borja got $20. Resid got $30, De Leon Guerrero $25 and Santos $20.
Edgar Talavera of Jihadd also gave a good account of himself by topping two categories.
The Pampanga, Philippines native first won the high series scratch by rolling a 700. Pangelinan was second with his 661, while John Santos of Patriots got third with his 633.
The women’s division saw Cruz and Cindy Iginoef, of JET Holdings, share the top honors with identical 587s, while Camacho was third with her 573.
Talavera earned $30, Pangelinan $25, and Santos $20. Cruz and Iginoef split the $55 cash prize, while Camacho received $20.
Talavera also was at his best in the high game with handicap, knocking down 293 pins. Joe Etpison of Mark Shark was second with his 289, while Garde was third with his 279.
Resid collected her third first-place trophy by topping the women’s division, when she rolled a 279. Lorie Pangelinan of Mark Shark was second with her 247 and Ron Cal of JET Holdings finished third with her 246.
