After the Eliminators completed their sweep of X-Clusive in the championship of the Island Wide Slow Pitch League on Wednesday night at the Oleai Sports Complex, the players celebrated, the fans cheered, and the winning manager finally had the chance to break a smile.

Several months ago, Danny Cabrerea’s son Ryan lost his life when he succumbed to the power of the waters near Sugar Dock. As a tribute to their fallen friend and family member, the Eliminators dedicated their season to the memory of their manager’s boy.

Cabrera was proud of his team’s accomplishment, and proudly showed off his cap, which was embroidered with the name Ryan on the side, as he congratulated his other boys.

Cabrera lauded the efforts of his team throughout the season, and gave high praise to the man whom he believes had a lot to do with the Eliminators taking the crown.

“I want to thank the entire team for sticking together for the last five months, and give credit to pitcher Henry Palacios who gave up nine runs in the first game, and came in for relief in the second game,” said Cabrera.

The manager thought back to what happened last season, when they lost to the fifth-seeded What’s this Louie? in the championship, and Cabrera said as the manager he wasn’t about to take any chances on the field.

“I didn’t want that sour taste in my mouth for the second consecutive year, so we didn’t take anything for granted out there,” he said.
