BANMI, NMASA meetings set
The Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Island and the Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association will have their respective monthly general membership meetings in the coming days.
BANMI will hold its tete-a-tete these days earlier than usual, this coming Saturday, Jan. 29, 12pm at the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Association president Michael White, citing an off-island trip next week, requested that BANMI”s regular Tuesday meeting be advanced to the earlier date.
Topics to discussed in the BANMI meeting are the ongoing 2004 Government Basketball League and updates on the upcoming 35-and-over Masters Basketball League and 25-and-under Basketball League.
The governing sports body of the CNMI, meanwhile, will conduct its general membership meeting on its regular first-Thursday-of-the month schedule, Feb. 3, beginning 6:30pm at the Ada Gym conference room.
All board members of NMASA are required to attend the meeting. Sports associations sending athletes to the Palau 2005 South Pacific Mini Games must also send a representative to the gathering.
NMASA is in the thick of preparations for the quadrennial event, set from July 25 to Aug. 4 in Koror.
Nominees for January athletes and student athletes of the month would also be voted on during the NMASA February meeting.
The association is also set to make the selection for Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year awards during the sports body’s general membership meeting.
The annual NMASA Athlete of the Year banquet will be held on Feb. 17 at the Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach. A total of 29 athletes from eight disciplines are nominated to the yearly awards presentation.
