The Hardt Eye Clinic on Saipan presented a slide show on eye injury to the children of the Garapan Elementary School on Thursday.

The presentation, held by Dr. Don K. Hardt, was conducted before the Class D-105 (Grade 5) of Ben Matagolai and Paul Salalila, comprising about 50 children.

Through a variety of slides that showed multiple injuries and diseases of the eye, Hardt impressed upon the children the importance of eye safety.

It was learned during the presentation that most eye injuries occur before the age of 25, mostly due to sports injuries.

“Most eye problems can be corrected if they are detected and treated early. Appropriate eye care is essential for maintaining good vision. Some problems, if left untreated—even for a short period—can result in permanent vision loss,” Hardt said.

The children were very attentive during the hour-long presentation and showed their inquisitiveness and interest by asking many questions. (PR)
