Wuzz Up makes up for ghastly showing
Wuzz Up may have finished fifth to the last in the recent Thursday Night League of the Philippine Bowling Association and Capitol Bowling Center, but the team could find solace that it did bag two special awards in the 16th season of the tenpin bowling competition.
Wuzz Up won the high series scratch award with a total of 2,285 pinfalls. Century Insurance and Multi-Line Supply finished tied in second place with identical scores of 2,722.
Made up of Jess Rebusada, Edward Baluyan, Roman Borja, Rommel Mostales, John Santos, Glen Garde, Ronald Epan, Diego Villagomez, Edgar Talavera, and Cindy Iginoef, Wuzz Up earned $50 for the feat. Century and Multi-Line split the $40 runner-up purse.
Wuzz Up also wound up with the high series with handicap plum after knocking down 3,189 pins. Inmayts came in second with 3,123 pinfalls. The win was worth an additional $50 for Wuzz Up, while Inmayts received $40.
In other special awards, Multi-Line took home the high scratch game honor with 975, followed by Micronesian Brokers, Inc. with 971. Multi-Line was awarded $45 for the win with MBI pocketing $35.
The high game with handicap trophy and $45 in cash went to Verizon with their 1,127. Microl Corp. was a mere pin short of first place with their 1,126 and had to settle for the second-place $35 prize.
In the individual awards, Richard Leong of Multi-Line annexed the high game scratch crown with his score of 269. Century’s Ruselle Zapanta was second with 268, while Ron Cal of Pacific Home Appliances topped the women with a 233.
The roles were reversed in the high game with handicap, as Zapanta defeated Leong, 293-268. Microl’s Linda Yarobwemal was No. 1 for the ladies with a 267.
The high series scratch division belonged to Arnel Bautista, who rolled a 661, followed by John Santos’ 642. Cal again was the best among the women with a 606.
Raymond Zapanta then prevented Bautista from going two-for-two by winning the high series with handicap after rolling a 725. Bautista was runner-up, a pin short of Zapanta’s total with a 724. Cal won her third ladies trophy with a 705.
In the high average, John Santos ruled the roost with his 186.54, while Lynn Teregeyo of Localz II was tops among the women with her 162.92.
Santos also ran away with the most improved bowler award after hiking his norm by 12.54 pins from a season ago. Yarobwebal, meanwhile, showed the most improvement among the ladies (11.36 pins).
The PBA holds a number of tenpin bowling leagues during the course of the week. Its officers are president Jess Rebusada, vice president Milo Orallo, secretary Rene Cabigao, treasurer Ross Zapanta, and auditor Bert Travilla.
