The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has adopted series of resolutions congratulating and commending CNMI high school graduates for being the top five Col. Joel A. Carroll, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund recipients.

The honorees are Dean Jesse M. Palacios, Vincent S. Castro, Angel C. Falig, Jr., Charles S. Cruz and Benjamin M. Jones Jr.

The memorial scholar-ship’s board of directors reviewed 14 applications for the scholarship and selected the top five from the CNMI.

The Col. Joel A. Carroll, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund enables qualified high school graduates from the CNMI who have been accepted by an accredited college or university to receive scholarship monies. While academic standing in high school is highly regarded as criteria for selection, a major in health, or science, or engineering is considered highly significant and carries a lot of weight in final selection.

Vincent S. Castro, Engineering, is the son of Gregorio T. and Gloria S. Castro; Charles S. Cruz, Natural Resources Management, is the son of Antonio C. Cruz and Raquel S. Sablan; Angel C. Falig, Jr., Engineering, is the son ofAngel M. and Patricia C. Falig; Benjamin M. Jones Jr., Forensic Science, is the son of Benjamin M. and Shirley Paul Jones; and Dean Jesse M. Palacios, Engineering, is the son of David S. and Margarita M. Palacios.

“The members of the municipal council and the people of the CNMI join the parents of the Col. Joel A. Carroll, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund recipients in congratulating and commending them for their educational accomplishments…and wish them continued success in college or university,” part of the resolutions read.

The resolutions were certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
