Amateur radio licensing exams on Friday
The next VE session offered by W5YI-VE sponsored by MDX Amateur Radio Club will be on Jan. 14, 2005, Friday, from 6pm to 9pm, at the Nauru buildng’s Community Center ground floor.

Walk-ins will be accepted, although pre-registration is encouraged. Those in the technician class who want to upgrade their license must bring the original and one photocopy of their FCC license and any applicable CSCEs.
A valid ID will also be required. If you do not have a photo ID, bring two ID forms at least one of which shows your current mailing address. The 2004 exam fee is $ 14.
There are currently three different written and one telegraphy (Morse code) examinations. The (multiple-choice) written examinations are Elements 2 (Technician), 3 (General), and 4 (Extra Class.). The requirement for the beginning Technician Class license is passing a 35 question exam Element 2. You pass a multiple choice written exam if you answer 75 percent of the questions correctly. The higher class licenses no longer require Morse code receiving proficiency at 13 or 20 words-per-minute.
The exam session will be administered by the Volunteer Examiner under the W5YI Volunteer Coordinator.
VEs wanting to assist in the exams should bring their VE ID’s. Only VEs with valid ID are allowed inside the examination session.
