Hunter crowned champion of Kreskins
It’s official—local prognosticator William Hunter emerged from a talented pack of people with a prediction for pigskin picking to become the champion of the National Football League’s regular season.
After 16 weeks of scrutinizing match ups of the top teams, bottom teams, and the mediocre, Will said that he did everything that he could to give himself a little bit of an advantage over the competition.
Will credited his careful analysis of the teams and attention paid to league trends to finishing the season with a record of 147-77.
“I paid attention to the injuries, the different team happenings, and the league trends before I selected any of my picks. Jennifer and John were pretty much on my tail for the whole season, so I had pay attention to everything,” he said.
Will edged second place Jennifer Lee by five games (142-82), and third place John Blanco by six (141-83), but had a little more breathing room between himself and Big Tuna (136-88) and Rich Brooks (129-95).
Although Will didn’t want to give up all of this secrets to would-be prognosticators, he revealed that he spent plenty of time online, watching ESPN, and reading the Saipan Tribune.
Hunter will have to utilize all of his sources this week, as the NFL marches into the postseason with the Wild Card Weekend. Aside from the regular cast of characters choosing the gridiron victors, five untested rookies have come to the table to see if they can’t unseat the champ and his crew.
First up is 10-year-old Chris Barry of the Saipan International School. Chris is a huge fan of N.Y. Giants quarterback Kurt Warner, a Cub Scout, and the winner of the first ever Pinewood Derby on Saipan. This kid has spent more time playing Madden than the announcer has spent being Madden.
Next up is the commissioner of the Commonwealth Football League Jesse Stein. Jesse has been standing by idly watching John the chairman all season long, but now it’s time to find out who really runs the CFL.
Jon Cramer holds a wealth of sports knowledge, and has tossed his hat into the ring as well. Cramer has a tendency to pick with his heart over his mind, which he showed last summer when he expressed high hopes for his beloved Chiefs of Kansas City.
Nina Rivera and Cassie DLG Fejeran have come in to show Jennifer that she isn’t the only pretty face that knows a thing or two about the game, and should make the final weeks before the Superbowl interesting.
