MVA partners with UOG for internship program
The Marianas Visitors Authority has linked up with the University of Guam International Tourism program for the placement of a management intern on Saipan.
The partnership was launched on Dec. 20, 2004 with the placement of George Andrew Aldan Sablan of Garapan, Saipan as a management intern at the MVA.
Sablan is presently a senior pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with concentration in International Tourism. He graduated from Marianas High School in 2001, the Northern Marianas College in 2002, and is expected to graduate from the University of Guam in May 2005.
His prior experiences were as a waiter/cashier for Halina’s Kitchen and warehouse stock clerk and customer relations receptionist with DFS Saipan.
He has also been active as president, vice present and member of the Galaide’ of the CNMI, a UOG student organization; a cadet in the UOG Tritons Reserve Officers Training Corps program; and participant in the JC Youth Voyage from Guam to Japan in 2004.
“The MVA’s commitment to developing the CNMI’s international tourism managers is commendable,” said John Salas, associate professor of International Tourism at UOG. “We expect to continue working closely with MVA and the Northern Marianas College in developing the region’s tourism leadership human resources as a partner in progress.”
Sablan’s internship is from Dec. 20, 2004 to Jan. 18, 2005. He will receive experience in working with current projects in MVA’s Public Relations and Community Relations, Marketing, and Research divisions. He will return to the UOG campus for its Spring semester and graduation.
“Graduates of International Tourism are expected to be highly marketable,” said Salas.
