Free patient, family health education classes at GMH

The Guam Memorial Hospital has launched a series of preventive health programs to assist the community with a return to total health.

“Governor Camacho committed at the recent 1st Micronesian Medical Symposium to do everything possible to assist the citizens of Guam in a return to total health. These free prevention programs aimed at eliminating the major causes of illness and death on our island—heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and infant mortality—are an important part of the results promised,” said hospital administrator Bill McMillan Thursday.

GMH will begin in January offering daily classes that include:

* Tossing Tobacco
* LIVING with Cancer or Lung Disease
* Tender Love and Care for Diabetics (diets, medicines, & complications prevention)
* The Skinny On Weight Loss
* Lovin’ Your Heart: Risks and Remedies
* Making Way For Baby –Special Delivery On Prenatal Care!

Additional evening classes will begin in February. All classes are free and open to the public. For further information, call the GMH Education Department at 647-2350/51. Registration required.

The schedule for January classes is:

Mondays —GMH Cafeteria Conference Room (10-11 am)
Jan. 3 – Clear the Smoke –Tossing Tobacco! – Part I
Jan. 10 – Clear the Smoke – Tossing Tobacco! – Part II
Jan. 17 – LIVING With Lung Disease – Tips For A Fuller Life
Jan. 24 – LIVING With Cancer – Keeping Your Quality of Life

Tuesdays—GMH Cafeteria Conference Room (9:30-11:30 am)
Jan. 18- Diabetes Tender Love & Care –Foods & Medicines That Are Best!
Jan. 25 – Diabetes Tender Love & Care –YOU Can Avoid Complications Now!

Wednesdays—GMH Cafeteria Conference Room (10 – 11 am)
Jan. 12 – Putting Your Weight Away & Tips For Keeping It Gone
Jan. 19 – Determining Your Heart Disease Risk – Know If It’s Headed Your Way
Jan. 26 – Decreasing Your Heart Disease Risk – Get Out Of The Way!

Thursday—GMH 4th Floor Education Classroom (1:30 – 3:30 pm)
Jan. 20 – Prenatal Tour & Orientations

Making Way For Baby – This Is A Special Delivery On Prenatal Care!
