Trader, wife attacked and robbed of $90,000
A businessman and his wife were injured last Dec. 20 after three unidentified men stormed into their store in Tanapag and robbed them of about $90,000.
According to Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric F. David, the victims, Kil Joo Hwang and his wife, were standing behind the counter of Jell Zone Store when the three suspects, described as Chinese-Korean nationals, entered at about 12:40am and demanded money.
David said that, based on preliminary investigation, one of the male suspects came up to the male victim and held a machete across his neck.
The second suspect wrapped a white cloth around the face of the victim, while the third held a pistol.
“The three Asian males demanded for money and the victims refused,” David said.
The gunman then shot Mr. Hwang in the face and his wife was hit behind her head with a machete.
David said the suspects fled the scene with a white Louie Vuitton bag containing $50,000 cash and about $40,000 in company checks.
The victims were taken to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment before being released.
The incident was classified as the NMI Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week for Dec. 27-31.
