A drowning incident was reported to the Department of Public Safety on Rota Sunday afternoon.

According to Department of Public Safety public information officer PO2 Eric F. David, Police and Fire personnel responded to Toteto Beach after receiving a call reporting the incident at about 1:43pm.

“Upon arrival, medics found that the victim was not responding,” David said. “CPR was performed and later [medics] transported the victim to the Rota Health Center for further treatment.”

At approximately 2:05pm, Dr. Rodney Klassem pronounced the victim, 70-year-old Kamiya Kiyoko of Japan, dead.

“Dr. Klassem said that the victim’s direct cause of death is drowning,” David said.
