Hyatt beach volleyball tourney next weekend
With only six days remaining until the opening serves of the 6th Annual Club Elan Christmas Volleyball Classic, hopes are high among tournament organizers that this year will be the biggest and the best volleyball-a-thon ever offered at the Garapan landmark.
Despite being rescheduled in the wake of Tropical Storm Noru, the show will go on behind the Hyatt Regency Saipan next Sunday, Jan. 2.
“It was too bad about the weather, but now it’s a great way to kick off the New Year! All of the superb volleyball action will just have to wait for a couple of weeks, but everyone is still invited to come down to the Hyatt Beachfront this Sunday and be a part of it,” said Club Elan Spa/Recreation Manager Faheem Ebrahim.
Following a successful string of both league and tournament play, volleyball enthusiasts will continue their Wilson celebration, as Club Elan at the Hyatt Regency Saipan will be hosting the event in association with Miller Lite. The Hyatt beachfront will be transformed into a festival of bump, set, and spikes, as the four-person random draw tournament gets underway at 9:30am.
Registration for the event will begin at 9am, and the cost to enter the double elimination tournament is $15 per person. Members of the Northern Marianas Islands Volleyball Association will receive a $5 discount. Pre-registration for the seaside affair is not required.
There will be an assortment of cash and prizes awarded to the top teams, to include brunches, lunches, massages, to name a few. In addition to participating in the tournament, competitors will get the added perks of full usage of Club Elan Spa and Fitness Centre, 20 percent discount on food and beverages at both Splash and Skipper’s beachside bar, and 30-40 percent discounts on massages for the day.
Faheem Ebrahim, said that a portion of the proceeds from the tournament will go towards the NMIVA’s efforts to send a team to the South Pacific Mini Games next July.
For those worried about there being too many people, or not being able to play at a level high enough for the level of competition, Ebrahim offered a little bit of advice.
“Every year we get about 40 to 50 people to come down and enjoy the games. It’s all about having a fun afternoon of volleyball,” said Ebrahim.
