With the country struggling to cope with a severe shortage of nurses, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing is going full blast with an online program where nursing candidates, nursing educators and practicing nurses have access to the tools and information necessary ‘to ensure continued professional development.’

Registered nurses, practicing nurses and nursing candidates can now log on to the Internet for easy access to NCSBN courses to prepare for licensure exams or for continuing education credits. NCSBN has partnered with VCampus Corp. to achieve these objectives for the benefit of the nursing profession.

VCampus Corp., a Virginia-based provider of end-to-end, web-based e-learning solutions, has been developing and delivering an online curriculum to support the continuing education for registered nurses (RN) and licensed practical and vocational nurses (LPN/VN).

In cooperation with NCSBN, it has initially developed and delivered three online courses to support RN and LPN/VN continuing education. The first three courses developed are End-of-Life Care and Pain Management, Patient Privacy and Diversity. This will provide continuing education credits for the registered and practical nurses. The first course tackles the needs of an aging population. The entire course is available through NCSBN Learning Extension campus at www.learningext.com.

NCSBN has signed a three-year renewable contract with VCampus to host and deliver the entire curriculum of online courses NCSBN developed.

To date, the online e-learning solution provider has already hosted more than 27 courses on the NCSBN Learning Extension campus that students, nurses and faculty members can access anytime, anywhere with an Internet connection.

Moreover, NCSBN will continue to work with partners such as VCampus to make learning available to any geographically challenged U.S. nurses and to international nurse candidates seeking licensure in the United States.
