Christmas Eco Camp begins
Eco Camp is back for its fifth year.
Sessions started Monday, Dec. 27, at the Mariana Resort and Spa, featuring activities including go-karts, kayaking, golf, tennis, snorkeling, arts and crafts, swimming, soccer, and more.
Camp facilities include three swimming pools, a snorkeling beach, dive pool, golf course, go-kart track, arts and crafts room, buffet lunch, baseball, and soccer field, and more.
Locally-owned Marianas Trekking manages the camp, and its owner, Chris Nelson, said he is excited to offer Eco Camp in 2004.
“We have a great facility to work with at Mariana Resort and Spa. It’s big, and safe, the ocean water is clean, and there is a lot of space for kids to safely explore. Our camp features indoor and outdoor activities, and we tailor our activities to the different age groups we serve. We continue to develop Eco Camp, not to make it just the top program on Saipan, but in all of Micronesia,” he said.
He said the camp has a great team and has employed a number of local residents as counselors over the years.
“In the last five years we have seen kids who started as campers graduate to become camp counselors,” added Nelson.
Niki Ramirez returns to Eco Camp as camp coordinator and is excited to lead the program. A professional dancer, Ramirez will help manage the camp, as well as work with the youngest children, “The Sea Turtles.”
“We have moved our camp headquarters to the lobby of the Mariana Resort and Spa for the Christmas season, and it should make it easier for parents to drop off and pick up their kids; additionally the chefs at Mariana Resort are preparing a special holiday lunch buffet just for the kids,” said Ramirez.
Eco Camp runs Monday through Friday in a one-week session over the Christmas break. Ages are from 4 to 15. Camp hours are 9am to 3pm.
Registration is done on line at www.marianastrekking.com.
Camp is priced at $100 for the week. Applications are available on-line or at the Mariana Resort. For more information, call 323-7743.
