The Diocese of Chalan Kanoa and Bishop Tomas A. Camacho will be celebrating their 20th anniversary since the diocese’s establishment on Jan. 13, 1984, together with Camacho’s appointment as the first bishop for the CNMI.

The Fundraising Committee is making preparations to celebrate this historic event with a Mass at 6am on Jan. 13, 2005, at Mount Carmel Cathedral. The Committee is also making preparations to invite three of Camacho’s classmates (priests) living in California. On Jan. 13, 2005, the Committee is sponsoring a Fundraising Dinner to be held at Hyatt Regency Hotel’s Garden for $50 per person.

According to Herbert Del Rosario, plans are also underway to invite local artists Candy Taman and Frank “Bokonggo” Pangelinan to sing a song they recorded for Camacho when he was appointed as the CNMI’s first bishop back in 1984.

“This, I hope, will provide the entertainment necessary for this occasion,” said Del Rosario.

Tickets for the fundraising event have been distributed throughout Saipan, Tinian and Rota, including the Korean Catholic Church. “I invite our people to support our bishop in this special celebration,” Del Rosario said.

The Fundraising Committee consists of all the Parish Council Presidents and a few people from the business community who have volunteered their time to assist Camacho.
