DCCA gets funding for repair work
The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs will soon solicit bids from interested bidders for the repair of several facilities on Saipan that sustained damage from Supertyphoon Chaba.
DCCA Secretary Juan L. Babauta said the budget for the restoration work was finally approved sometime two weeks ago. He did not specify the amount besides saying that the request for proposal will be issued soon.
Chaba damaged several facilities in the community, including the local sports grounds, which need to be repaired immediately, according to Babauta.
With the assistance of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the federal government, the approved budget will help restore and even improve buildings and recreational and sports facilities in the community, he said.
Babauta expressed thanks to those who worked hard to get the funding proposal approved.
The restoration and repair work will be for the Emergency Protective Service at the Juvenile Detention Center, the buildings of the Office of the Secretary, Child Care Office, LIHEAP Office, Division of Youth Services, and the Aging Program building, as well as the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, its baseball and softball field and various basketball courts.
The renovation is set to start 15 days after the holidays.
