Laolao hosts RGA Club Championship
The Refalawasch Golf Association will hold its 2004 Club Championship at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort Saipan west course this coming Saturday, Dec. 18.
Like in previous years, the defending Club Championship winner, in this case Oliver Sasaki, remains the favorite to go all the way.
Sasaki won the 2003 Club Championship with a four-under par 68 performance at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort last Dec. 27.
The then 27-year-old Sasaki turned back the challenges of Joe Wabol and Anthony Klinge, Jr. after scoring a 37 in the back nine and a 39 in the front. He finished with a gross score of 76 to take home the title.
Golfers expected to crowd Sasaki for the title are former winner Sonny Flores, newcomer Jordan Kosam, senior golfer Joe “Chuparium” Wabol, and China-bound Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho, who has long been considered one of the best golfers in the Pacific.
The rest of the qualifiers in the yearend RGA tournament are as follows: January’s Joe “Chuparium” Wabol; February’s Ben Duenas; March’s Mario Taitano; April’s Lou Tilipao; May’s Nick Sablan; June’s Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho; July’s Sonny Flores; August’s Norman Tenorio; September’s Reno Celis; October’s Jordan Kosam; November’s John Tagabuel; and December’s Jess Wabol.
The winner of the RGA Club Championship gets a one-year free membership from the club. RGA would also pony up cash to pay for the entry fee of the tournament of his choice in 2005.
Players with the Top 3 low net scores will also not go home empty handed and will receive cash prizes. Fourth to sixth places will be gifted with golf bags. Also up for grabs during the Club Championship is the closest to the pin competition on all par-three holes.
Tournament fee for the Club Championship is $100, which already includes green fee and a banquet at Hyatt Regency Saipan.
