The sound from the sirens of police vehicles and fire trucks filled the streets late afternoon Friday, as the Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention campaign of the Department of Public Safety began its Santa Claus visits to schools.

According to the 3D committee, the visitations to the schools is intended to inform the youth on the effects of driving while impaired, as well as give kids a treat for the holidays.

The program also consists of local artists, known as the 3D Elves Band, who sing local and holiday tunes for the kids and others to enjoy.

December has been declared as Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month, and the visitations are part of a variety of activities designed to spread the message of keeping the holidays safe for everyone.

Other activities include 3D’s Road Side Plea, which also involves students, parents, and supporters from around the island, as well as presentations, roadside displays of crashed vehicles, Christmas caroling, and more. (Shan Seman)
