Measured response for families of troops this Christmas

I wrote two weeks ago asking people to be generous this Christmas and help assist the families of our troops sent overseas to fight the war on terrorism. The response, unfortunately, has been rather measured. I like to think it’s probably because times are hard and everyone, frankly, are fundraising for one cause or another. Thank you to those who came forward and gave something—no matter how small.

But most of the troops of Echo Company are coming home. And former presiding judge Edward Manibusan, Galvin Guerrero and a lot of other people are hard at work to produce and record a concert to show our brothers and sisters in arms that they are always remembered for their sacrifices and dedication.

So, the concert will happen at American Memorial Park the evening of December 23. Donations are still needed to cover the production cost of the DVDs what will be produced and sent to every service member from the NMI. Judge Manibusan in inviting everyone to the concert. Admission is free but donations will be accepted for the cost of production of the DVDs.

My personal gratitude to Juan Pan and Herman’s Modern Bakery, celebrating their 60th year in business and the opening of their Garapan outlet, who have generously agreed to donate care packages of locally made cookies for all of the NMI’s troops—those coming home and for those who remain in Irag, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Northern Africa.

Please be generous. It is Christmas after all. Even to those who have to remain back in a foxhole in Iraq or Afghanistan, so that we can freely enjoy themselves with our loved ones in the peace and spirit of the season.
