A company yesterday sued another before the Superior Court over unpaid purchases of various construction materials and supplies.

In a complaint, Hong Electric Enterprises Inc. said Elephant Corp. owes it some $5,739.17 for purchases made almost four years ago.

Hong’s attorney, Colin M. Thompson, said the purchases were made sometime between Dec. 14, 2000 to Jan. 11, 2001.

Sometime on March 25, 2002, Elephant made a partial payment by check in the amount of $2,000, Thompson said. However, he said Hong had to return the check four days later, after the check bounced due to insufficient funds.

Last September, Thompson said he sent Elephant a demand letter for the latter to settle its debt to Hong. However, Elephant still made no payment, prompting the filing of the lawsuit.

Besides asking for payment for the purchases plus interest, Thompson also asked the court to assess against Elephant the costs incidental to the filing the suit, including attorney’s fee. (John Ravelo)
