Devils and Chiefs sweep in IWVBL
Volleyball fans only received half their daily dosage of bumps, sets and spikes at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Thursday night, as only the Managaha Chiefs and the She Devils had opponents to play for their wins in the Island Wide Volleyball League.
The Chiefs (3-0) extended their unbeaten streak to three games as they downed the Monarchs (0-4) in straight sets, 25-20 and 25-13. Point production came from all over the board, as Andrew Ortega, Jerry Smith and the boys took advantage of the less experienced Monarchs.
The Chiefs return to the Ada gym next Thursday, Dec. 16, when they look to improve their record to 4-0 against No Fear at 6:30p. The Monarchs search for their first win will continue on Tuesday, Dec. 21, when they challenge the winless Floaters (0-3) at 6:30p.
On the women’s side of the court, the She Devils (4-1) continued their upward climb in the standings by making short work of T-8 (0-3) in two sets, 25-10 and 25-21.T-8 suffered their third straight loss of the young season at the hands of Arcy Moncrief, Elaine Ogarto, Valerie Camacho, Chariss Ruluked, Mayumi Aguon, Jennifer Leskosek, Emi Oiterong, and Frances Somorang.
After succumbing to Pikan Gaga (4-0), the Devils have been on a roll—one that they hope to continue on Tuesday, Dec. 21, against Haz Been at 6:30p. T-8, on the other hand, will have to overcome the fury of the Dragons (3-1) next Thursday, Dec. 16 at 6:30p if they hope to get a win in their next outing.
While the Managaha Chiefs and She Devils had to put forth some effort to get a notch in the left side of the win-loss column, the Chuukanos (2-2) and the Hitters (2-3) simply needed to show up, as No Fear (2-1) and Haz Been (0-4) failed to appear for their games.
The Chuukanos will try to break through the .500 barrier next Thursday, Dec. 16 against NMC Proa (1-1) at 7:30, while No Fear will challenge the Chiefs in the 6:30p match-up—if they can make it on time.
The Hitters next face Pikan Gaga next Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 7:30, while Haz Been has a chance for redemption when they face Bootylicious (1-2) in the 6:30p contest.
