In a show of support for active duty troops from the CNMI, the Garapan Street Market will merge with music concert Troop Fest 2004 on Thursday, Dec. 23, at the American Memorial Park amphitheatre.

The Garapan Street Market will add food and other vendors to the event, which has extended its hours from 4pm to 10pm that day.

“GSM is honored to be a part of this benefit,” said GSM chair Carmen Cabrera-Henry. “We want everyone to know that GSM is all about communities; this one-time merger is an exhibit of the support we give to everyone. On this night, especially, we will be remembering our own active duty service members…fighting for freedom for all of us.”

Troop Fest 2004 aims to bring the community together in a show of support for CNMI active duty service members. The music and video production will feature performances by school groups and local artists, as well as pre-taped and live personal messages from the community, a raffle drawing, and memorabilia sales. The event will be produced as a DVD to be distributed for free to all CNMI active duty service members. Admission to the concert is free, and concert goers will also be allowed to make donations toward bringing the CNMI’s Company E Army Reserve soldiers home for leave prior to their deployment to Iraq. A portion of these donations will also go to a reputable organization to aid Iraqi children.

Student groups already confirmed to perform at Troop Fest 2004 include Garapan Elementary School, Kagman Elementary School, Mt. Carmel School, and Garapan Girl Scouts. Troop Fest 2004 is being spearheaded by the U.S. Armed Forces Veterans Association of the CNMI and the Office of the Governor.

Corporate and individual donations for the production of the concert and DVD are now being accepted. To make a donation or for more information, contact Governor’s Special Assistant for Special Projects Galvin Guerrero at 670-664-2213 or e-mail at galvin@itecnmi.com.
