In light of the increasing number of prepaid phone card users in the Northern Marianas, Guam, Philippines, Japan, and the USA, Verizon Pacifica is launching a new online service that would allow them to get their own calling cards without leaving their homes or their offices.

The Verizon Pacifica Virtual Calling Card Service allows customers to securely buy all types of prepaid cards—Star 88 cellular and long distance phone cards—through the Internet, according to Franco O. Mendoza, the telecommunications company’s webmaster who developed the new website.

Mendoza said that by simply logging on to e-card.vzpacifica.net, customers can instantly buy and print out their virtual prepaid cards, which provide essential information such as the PIN code, the toll-free number, and the type of calling card purchased. “It’s just like the prepaid cards you buy in a store,” he said.

“We are consistently improving the quality of service we provide our customers and we want Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands to be at pace with the rest of the world in terms of technology by offering them a comprehensive e-commerce solution that streamlines the way they do business,” said Mendoza.

Jorge Soledad, who handles the prepaid phone cards at Verizon Pacifica, assured customers that the virtual calling cards are as efficient as the ones available in various retail stores throughout the islands.

“The only difference is you don’t actually have to go out to get one. It is so convenient and that is what we at Verizon have been consistently working on,” Soledad said.

He noted that the new website also provides other information including the number of minutes available in a particular value of phone card when used to call various parts of the world and the United States.

In addition, Mendoza said buying a prepaid calling card at the e-card.vzpacifica.net website is easy and secured, noting that Verizon Pacifica uses the latest 128-bit encryption technology to keep personal information safe.

“All information—including name, address, and credit card number—is encrypted using a secure server for maximum security. Your credit card and billing information cannot be read as it travels to our system. We’re so certain that our online service is secure that we back it up with a guarantee.”

Credit card transactions are handled by a third-party financial institution, which receives the credit card number and other personal identifying information only to verify the credit card numbers and process transactions, he added.

Mendoza said that if the web browser is enabled for Secure Sockets Layer, the transaction and credit card payment information will be encrypted during transmission. The following browsers are compatible with Verizon Pacifica’s Online Service: Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator version 3.05 and higher.

He also cited some of the advantages of using the online Virtual Calling Card Service: (1) It is easy to confirm whether you have received the proper amount of credit for each transaction; (2) The system performs an Address Verification System, and eliminates the chance of using a stolen credit card, saving one from a charge back; and (3) Reduces authorization time to as low as five seconds per transaction.
